Was it sold or placed? Citibank as a general doesnt sell their accounts, they place them with attorneys. Kickbacks??? Doubtful....Citi wants their $$$$$

While his assertiveness in advocating his position may be unpleasant, it is not unethical. In the end, he must do what you instruct, as long as it is legal. He works for you.
Bringing a complaint of attorney malpractice is serious. I would not pursue such a complaint based on a suspicion. Maybe a new attorney?
