[SIZE="3"][FONT="Book Antiqua"][SIZE="4"][FONT="Times New Roman"]I have a concern about a letter that I received call RJM Acquisitions LLC from Syosset, NY yesterday but it is addressed to a person whose name I do not recognize nor has never lived at my address. I do not know who this person is whatsoever, but it has their name on the letter but my mailing address. I just happen to do a Google search on this collections company and have seen all sorts of complaints.

My questions are the following: I have not opened this letter at all, should I just contact the collection agency directly via phone informing them that addressee is not known and return this letter to sender? Or should I send them a either a certified letter, fax or email informing them that the subject never resided at my address they have the incorrect address.

I am trying to find out how I can handle this situation to correct this issue.

I happened to search on this person’s name and they live in my hometown. I do not know this person at all.

Any information or input is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I agree. You definately dont want to get into the middle of the business of another. It is most likely a formal collection (dunning) notice that begins the clock ticking for the DV rights of the addressee. If the letter is not addressed to you, you dont want any questions of affilliation with this party to be raised. Dont open it. It is not yours.
Get the entire burden on the debt collector to make proper service of the letter.
The standard procedure for handling of mail sent but not addressed to you is to simply return it unopened. Dont "open" a can of worms.
