It is not that rare...I know our agency used to ask for it all the time.

What is their stated reason? Have you requested something from them, such as new or additional credit, or do you have a delinquent debt with them?

This is not at all an unheard of situation. Creditors need to know your financial creditworthiness before lending you a new line of credit. They may ask for your bank statements, paystubs and your credit report. There is nothing wrong in this and you ought to show them this if you want to get a loan from them.
