I since found out I only owe them the PRINCIPAL that is $300. since I live in NJ and ayday loans are illegal here.
When I go to email them that they are only owed the $300 and try to make arrangemnts on that and ask for an address I get threats like if my payment from my checking account (which I closed by the way) comes back to them tomorrow, they will SELL my loan immediately to collections.
So then I say i will call you with a debit card, for at least most of the balance and she says no they dont take debit cards and I am going to be marked as defaulting. Her name is Amy and she sends essentially canned type responses she probably types 100 times a day
Then I offer to mail a money order or do a Western Union Moneygram online and that I need their address and she REFUSED TO GIVE ME THEIR address until I run and buy a money order for $390 (the 300 I borrowed plus $90 fee), make a copy of said money order send it to her and then and only then will she give me their address! Is that legal??? She claims if I don't do this by what is actually 10 mins ago I am in hot water and my account is in collection.
I have an email string of about 20 emails back and forth today where she refuses to let me pay just the principal and says it doesnt matter if I am located in NJ, I signed the loan online and am liable for the full 390.
p.s. I sent them a cease and desist earlier today and she respondeed with "we do not read form letters".
GRRRRRRRR

Yes, you are right. You are only required to pay the principal amount to them. The company is just trying to scare you. Don't pay any more than $300.

Lending of payday loans are illegal in New Jersey. Though they are pursuing you for the debt, you're liable for paying off only the principal amount. As they are harassing you, I will suggest you to file a complaint against them with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance who will take actions against the payday lender.

I agree with what the previous posters have said. As pdl lending is prohibited in the state of New Jersey, that???s why none of the payday lenders in this state are legal. You are required to pay only the principal amount as they are not licensed in your state. Illegal payday lenders don???t have any right to take any legal action against you. Nj dobi
thanks all. As far a the NJ department of banking and insurance, I called them yesterday and got a grumpy guy who told me that since PDLs ARE illegal in NJ, they (the NJ DOBI) cannot help me at all, and he suggested I call Consumer Affairs instead. I then called the dept of consumer affairs and emailed them as well. I just got an email back from them suggesting I contact the NJ department of banking aand insurance (the same ppl who cant help me).
sooooooooooooooo frustrating!! I never paid JHS yesterday as I refused to buy the money order BEFORE I got the address. These people at JHS are horrible to deal with but I have to say so far my state of NJ doesn't seem to want to help me out much ;(
