I live in Georgia and have a couple of loans with local finance companies. Due to financial difficulties, I have been running a month behind and they are harrasing me relentlessly even though I have told them that I won't be able to make my next payment until I get paid. Is there anything that can be done to stop the phone calls and how many calls are they allowed per day before it is considered harrassment? Thanks for any advice.

Hi,

You didn't mention who's calling you, I mean the name of the company. If you owe money to some financial company and you've defaulted on them badly, it is quite natural that your accounts will be handed over to the collection agencies. Though the FDCPA protects the rights of the debtors, yet there are some limitations. They can't call you before 9.00 a.m in the morning and after 8.00 p.m at night. They can't call you when you're at your office. If they're taking such actions, then they're violating the FDCPA rules and you can complain against them.

However, a much better option would be repaying your debts. Resort to debt relief options and simplify your debt repayment procedure to become debt free and avoid all the collection calls.

Hi farmerjerry,

If it is the creditors who are calling you, then they definitely can call you for the payments. You will have to try and make the payments in other ways if you don???t have the money. Can you tell us the types of debts that you have? There are different ways in which you can actually pay off the debts.

Thanks,

The name of the finance company is Covington Credit. I even gave them a letter in writing telling them that last weeks payment was enclosed and I would make my next payment on the 15th and the 1st. Those are my paydays. Once I make the payment on the 1st, I will be completed caught up and back on track with them.
