I had 2 Chase cards, among many others, one of which I settled for around 35%, the other was sold to Capital One, they apparently purchased all the Sony credit cards from Chase. (Just my luck).

The last payment was in March to Chase, now I have Cap One looking to collect on a balance of $7500. I have finally been transferred to their hardship department ever since I mentioned my wifes medical problems from 2010, I guess unemployment is not a hardship in their view.

For anyone who has settled Cap One at around 50% , do you have any tips to offer. I know I am fighting an uphill battle with them and may have to settle at a higher amout.

Marie M, if your watching, any tips for a DIY guy?

TIA

Hi ioalot,

It will depend upon your negotiation powers if you wish to settle your debts for a lower amount. You will have to convince the creditor about your financial hardship and negotiate with them so that they offer you a settlement plan which you will be able to afford. In case, you're unable to settle your debts on your own, contact a local debt relief company and take their help in this matter. They will negotiate with your creditor and will help you get a better settlement plan to pay off the debts.

Thanks

Ioalot,

So sorry - I didn't see your post until someone sent me a PM letting me know that you were looking for an answer.

I don't foresee you having a problem settling your Capital One account for around 50% of the balance. As a matter of fact, it used to be difficult to get anything less than 50% on Capital One accounts, but in the last few months we've noticed that we've even been able to get these accounts settled for a little less than this.

Good luck!
