I received a message last night on my machine saying that he was James Cutter and he is an independent legal courier and that he will be coming to my home and place of employment to bring some papers that I need to sign for a upcoming court appearance, and left this number 877-313-2791.
I have checked my civil court records here in Wash DC, and I have no cases open right now.
Can this be a scam, or does it sound like it could be legit?

We can help you with that too if you want to share details of the names of your lenders, how much you borrowed, how much you've paid thus far and how you obtained the loan (internet, I'm assuming since there are no storefronts in MD).

1)you already checked and you said there is no case meaning the call was meant to get you on the phone to try and scare money out of you.
2)a google search of the number you posted had no info whatsoever.
so treat this as a scam,and report this person to your local police as well as your AG.bottomline nobody calls ahead to say they are serving you.btw chances are 110% that this scam has your info from one of your old lenders.so again do not call this idiot.report him.

i don't think it matters
as far as legality goes none would be licensed anywhere.i would still proceed on the idiot who called as a scammer as again there is no case against the OP.i'm referring to their current loans on the legality,but the call and person making the call should be treated as the scam they are and reported asap.
