Rent-A-Center payday loan
Date: Tue, 09/20/2011 - 09:37
I received very harassing phone calls from a guy saying he was going to serve me papers, contact friends and family, etc (you know the script, lol) so I called the number. This guy could not tell me what the original amount was, just that he wanted me to pay $360 and give him my credit card info to collect the money right then...of course I didn't! He said he was a "mediator", not a company that buys old loans or a lawyers office, yet I could not find his company on the internet or his phone number (said the company was called USC and the phone number is 888-458-7524), so I told him, since the original messsage from his guy said that I could still settle this debt with the "plaintiff" (he said this 4 times in the first voicemail), which he SAID was Rent-A-Center, that I'd contact Rent-A-Center and see what I could do, then get back to him after that.....
within 20 minutes I received a more severe phone call from his guy saying that I had my chance and didn't pay the bill within 20 minutes so he was going to serve me papers, etc, etc...I was so pissed that I called that "office" back again, talked to the guy asking why I was getting another harassing phone call in 20 min, and finally got so pissed that I just said to serve me!!! ps-the guy admitted that he had never sent me info regarding this debt via USPS! They also started called one of my brothers, but the odd part is is that they called an ex-sis-in-law which is someone I would have never ever left as a reference on a payday loan!
Now I call Rent-A-Centers corporate office customer service this morning and tell them about this, they just gave me a phone number for a company called Midwest Recovery @ 866-839-6529, telling me that this is the company that bought the loans out....I just tried to call them, got a voicemail and asked them to call me....they never said their name on the voicemail which I thought was odd!
What can you tell me about these Rent-A-Center places that went out of business...can they still collect these old payday loans? What should I do with these guys that are threatening me over the phone, besides what I did do, I told them to go ahead and serve me, that my son lives next door to me and is a Colorado State Trooper (true), so make sure he comes to the house with the Trooper car parked in front. Honestly, I want them to take me to court at this point just so I can play these horrible voicemails to a judge! Am I doing the right thing? I haven't received a call yet today, nor has my family....hope it stays this way! ps-I'm on Disability and have been for 18 years for health reasons, in case this is info you need.
Sorry for the length of this, but as you can tell I'm upset...and to tell the truth, if I could, I'd walk into Rent-A-Center and pay the money now if they'd accept it, I have it in the bank! I just wish I had received a bill, I would have paid it or called and made payment arrangements! Thanks!
Don't make any payments at the moment. These are false threats.
Don't make any payments at the moment. These are false threats. No one can possibly serve you for not paying the loan within 20 minutes. If you receive threatening calls from this guy again, then file a complaint with FTC.
Yep???Nandy is right. You can also file a complaint against
Yep???Nandy is right. You can also file a complaint against them to the State Attorney General.
You have the right and should demand to see something in writing
You have the right and should demand to see something in writing on this bill. Noone should have to pay a debt sight unseen over the phone. These people should be reported to your local police and the FTC. It is not your fault that the company you took the loan from shut its doors before your loan came due. At any rate, they should have contacted you way before this with payment instructions.
