Today I received several calls from 404-991-6880, from a Mrs.Hankinson who refused to give me her first name. She stated that this number was her direct number.

She told me that she was collecting on an internet payday loan I took out in August 2009. Now, that the time, in August 2009, I had MULTIPLE online payday loans. These since have all been paid, with multiple "collection agencies" trying to collect since they have been paid.

She stated the original loan amount was $420, and that I now owed $840 due to taxes and fees. (funny how it is EXACTLY double of what was originally owed) She stated that she was a "legal placement firm" and that I had commited "depository fraud". When I asked her to send me verification via USPS, she told me she could only send me something through email. She was rude to me on mulitple occasions and put me on hold several times, especially after I asked for her full name and direct contact information. I eventually got fed up with her and hung up, to which she then called back three more times in a row and left me the same message three more times. Then she called the references I had used on the account and left them messages for me as well.

I filed a compliant with the BBB out of Georgia, because after doing research on the company, they called themselves "Mauconduit and Luna" and are supposedly based out of Atlanta, GA, even though I can't find a legitimate website or contact information. I also had their number blocked from my cell phone so they can't repeatedly call me.

Any other suggestions on how I should handle this?

They called my office today and I told them the same thing and hung up. They then called back and hit "0" for the operator and asked for my supervisor. She said that she was wil Ml & Associates and that she needed him to insure I call her back immediately because of a pending civil lawsuit against me for bouncing checks across state lines.

Would love to find an address for these stupid people.

both posters who were called need to use whatever info they have to file police reports as they infered you commited a crime as fraud is just that.pdl debt is a civil matter at best.the idiot who called broke the law in stating you commited fraud.file the report using any numbers and the name of the place.then either ignore them,or hang up if they call you at work again.do not even utter a word just hang up.have others do the same.

Windy- Here is what I found after doing some searching on the internet:

(Also, it is against the rules of the FDCPA for a debt collector to contact a third party (your employer, previous employer, family, friends, references, etc) and tell them that you owe a debt or are being sought for a lawsuit of any kind. They only thing they can do is find out information on how to best contact you, such as a new phone number.)

I would fax them a debt verification letter, as well as a C&D letter and also send one of each to them by mail, return receipt requested.

These people are trying to SCAM others out of money that has already been paid. I did in fact have a PDL with National PayDay Loan that was paid over a year ago... and I've had AT LEAST 3 different "collection agencies" try to collect on this same debt that was already paid. I monitor my credit reports very closely, and luckily none of them have shown up on my credit report, because they having nothing to charge me with or no valid means for collection a debt that has already been paid.

Any ACTUALY debt collector must indentify themselves by first and last name, will give the company name and a direct phone number, as well as a physical address. They will go thru their whole "I must advise you that this an attempt to collect a debt and any information will be obtained for that purpose." They also must send you a dunning letter within 5 days of the initial contact, stating who they are and what they are collecting on. You can still go ahead and ask for a debt validation letter as well, any legitimate company will comply with your requests and not become verbally abusive on the phone or stoop to scare tactics.

Man I've learned more than I eve thought I would about proper debt collection practices and my rights... unfortunately I learned the hard way!!
