You should inform this matter to the court. You may also consult with an attorney in this regard. I hope he/she will guide you in this regard.

I was told to try to have it dispute thru credit reporting agencies first.
Type: Abstract Judgement
As it appears on my credit report there is only a filed date. Status is blank reported date is blank verified date is blank.
Only items that show are the case # the lawyers name and filed date.

you do not need an attorney.
Who was the creditor? More than likely the attorney sued on behalf of someone else. Have you looked the docket up online???
You are not going to get it vacated without cause. Did you receive a summons? Appear in court?

No he was my attorney for a custody case i had.
Im NOT paying him as he gave me incorect court dates, didnt show up himself and showed up late. So much so that the judge advised him that he showed up in her lookin as he did that day he would not be allowed in her court room
Regardless of why im not paying if i were to want to settle this i have no means of contacting him and the court does not have any updated contact information for him. He is NOT listed with the BAR association any longer either. I was told by the person who retained this lawyer for me that he is now deceased.
If disputing it with credit agencies doesnt work should i just let this go until it falls off my credit report?

If he deceased, the proceeds would be part of his estate. You probably should talk to the clerk of the court.
The court determined you owe it and awarded the judgment. They will continue to verify it.

You can get a copy of the judgment from the court. It will say something like "abc collecting vs. you". This will give you the name of the agency that hired the lawyer, and they hold the judgment against you.
You can ask for a hearing, then you can ask for it to be sent to mediation. Mediation is typically very forgiving to the debtor.
If they have violated the FDCPA, you can file a counter-motion, and you are likely to win. If they didnt send you a warning stating you have 30 days to dispute the debt, then you can get $1000 off. If they called you twice in one day, you can get another grand. If they didnt make an effort to contact you, a few more. Usually they lose by default.
