District Restitution Services
It is a scam. Nothing on google for the company or the phone.
It is a scam. Nothing on google for the company or the phone. Debts are civil, not criminal. Stay off the phone, and file a complaint with your state AG's office and gthe FTC.

That is what I thought! How do I file a complaint with no information about the company? I was going to send them a cease and desist so they will stop calling but I don't even know who to send it to.

That's what I was afraid of, calling them back. I read you can't block your number from an 800 number so I guess they will have my cell number then. At least I will have a record of them calling now I guess.
Thanks for your help!
Got the same message
They left a message on my cell phone. Didn't address me by name though. I think it is a scam, I can't find anything online for them. I guess I could call them back and give them the reference number and ask them for my name and my other info, to see if they have it...which I don't think they do. Idiots! h
Hope no one is dumb enough to call them back and give them their info.
Found the scammer!
I found the company by using reverse number lookup. The website is http://www.districtrestitution.org but they don't answer that number either. They were calling about an 8yr old check advance and when I asked for information to back up the claim they said they didn't have to prove it and it was bullcrap for me to try to get out of it by asking them their address. they threatened to send sheriff to my work.
Per Florida statutes collectors cannot threaten criminal action for payday advances and there is a statute of limitations on this, I think its 5 years. I will be contacting an attorney to deal with them.
Don't fall for for their illegal collection practices!
Although they managed to put up a pretty website claiming to be a legit business, they are nothing but a bunch of collectors that couldn't hack it at a real collections job. Payday loan collectors are the bottom feeders of the collections world and prove it every time they open their mouths. I got a similar call but I guess my sarcasm and unwillingness to fall into their trap of being scared into giving them money really made this guy mad and he went so far as to call my boss and tell her I was writing bad checks and asked her if that was the kind of person she wanted working for her. I was threatened with being arrested at my job among other illegal and idle threats. Don't be scared if you get one of these calls. You will NOT be arrested. Check your credit report, if they have not sent you a letter advising you of the alleged debt with your rights they cannot report this. If they do send you a letter, which is highly unlikely, send them a certified letter within 30 days demanding they provide you with proof you owe this debt. If they do not, then they cannot do anything to you. I suggest you include in your request for documentation a cease and desist, including your home and cell numbers, relatives, neighbors, employer and anyone else that may be a known associate of yours. Keep a copy of the letter and the certified mail receipt. Save all voicemails and if possible record the conversation. The more relaxed you are on the phone, the angrier they get, and this leads to desperation so they will say anything legal or illegal to get your money so they can get a bonus check. I wrote a scathing letter to their so-called "office of the president" outlining all of their illegal tactics and to no surprise, I got no response. This company is so disgusting it makes a bad name for the legit collectors and agencies just trying to do their job. They probably operate out of a warehouse or even someones garage. They claim to be licensed in all 50 states, but again not surprisingly the Florida secretary of state business department has no record of this company. All you have to do is call the secretary of state where you live to see if they are licensed there. In today's economy there are very few people that can spare a dime, so don't upset yourself on how you are going to pay something you don't have to!
District Restitution
I got a letter from District Restitution SVCS saying that i owe Advance America $710 on may 4th. so I'm looking at the letter and i notice TWO different mailing address. i googled 655 Pullman Ave Rochester, NY 14615 (check it your self on maps.google.com) and it pulled up a hole in the wall mailing service called Immediate Mailing Services(IMS-www.immediatemailing.com/contact.html). So then I did 6039 Fallsview Blvd, Suite 200 Niagara Falls, On L2G 3V6 (District Restitution SVCS-www.districtrestitution.org) and it pulled up DoubleTree Fallsview Resort and Spa by Hilton Niagara Falls. Now Ive been involved with debt collectors before (Student Loans and Credit Cards) and they never asked me to "piggyback" money from one company to another or have a different address from the main company to collect money. 1. What kind of debt collectors use a hole in the wall mailing services to receive money to pay off a debt? 2.IMS has pictures of its company on maps.google.com, how come District Restitution doesn't? 3. What kind of debt collection agency is located on by or in a resort? Im not paying them jack squat. True enough i got money from Advance America back around 2000-2001. I dont know what the statue of limitations are in Alabama but i know a scam when i see one, i.e. ACN, work at home and make $700-$1500 part time business seminars the help you "realize your actuality and money making potential". yeah right wake up and smell the folgers in your cup people there are more scams out here now than ever. You got people like madoff and companys like enron that have ripped and continue rip people off daily and this to me is a prime example.

Identification
A payday loan is a short-term loan backed by a written contract. A borrower must agree to the terms and conditions of the loan and provide a bank account where the advance can be deposited. In Alabama, payday loans must be repaid within 10 to 31 days. Payday lenders are allowed to roll over, or extend, a payday loan one time if requested. Fees apply.
Alabama Code
Under Alabama Code 5-18A-1 et seq., the maximum loan amount a debtor can obtain is $500. The maximum finance rate is 17.50 percent. In other words, the finance charge for 14-day $100 loan is $17.50. The annual percentage rate for 14-day $100 loan is 456.25 percent. The longer a debt is delinquent, the greater the penalty charges, which is why payday lenders sue for the repayment of older accounts.
Collection Activities
Payday lenders take aggressive action to collect a delinquent payday loan. Typically, collection activities are undertaken promptly and include demand letters, phone collections and ultimately legal action. If a debtor does not respond to verbal or written requests for payment, the lender can sue the debtor in a state court for the delinquent amount plus penalty fees, interest charges and attorney's fees.
Six Years
In Alabama, the statute of limitations on written contracts --- including payday loan contracts --- is six years. Creditors have up to six years from the last date of activity on a payday loan to bring legal proceedings against a debtor. Alabama's payday loan statutes require lenders to provide repayment plans for accounts that have reached the maximum number of rollovers allowed by state law

District Restitution Services
My sister got a call from them looking for me they stated "CHECK FRAUD" and they were going to go forward with pressing charges and have me served. I called them back they couldn't give me much info but had enough personal info to shake me up a bit. I was unaware of this payday loan and didn't recall taking one out. They told me even if it was fraud I had to pay it or I would be served and could face check fraud charges. I asked for a supervisor and he answered Officer Duncan., officer so now the police dept. gets involved? I was treated like Sh*t and when I was asking them to verify the personal info used to get the loan they got defensive and couldn't provide me with it.
I ended up paying them but it didn't sit well with me. I did a lot of research and contacted the payday loan company they stated sold them the debt. I was told this debt was not sold to them and that this was a scam. I was connected to a consumer fraud dept and was able to file a report with them and also filed a police report. Needless to say I called my bank to stop payment.
