nationwide credit help!
Date: Mon, 11/21/2011 - 11:27
today at my new work number I received a call from nationwide credit --
I NEVER gave them this number -- and when I spoke with the guy (from india) -- I asked him how he got the number since I know It was never listed --
he lied -- said it was in the file -- I told him I am not allowed to take calls at work and to remove the number -- I verified the home address and then hung up --
I have spoken to them previously and tried to settle but they are too high --
any ideas -- what if they call again -- I wrote down the name and phone number as well as date and time --
thanks guys --

Hi Chrissyhen,
If you really owe the debt and want to get rid of it, then you can contact a local debt consolidation company and check out whether or not they will be able to help you in consolidating the debts so that you can get rid of it.
Take care
How much do you owe them and for what type of debt?? Savion....

Savion....sending someone to a debt consolidation company is useless if you dont have all the facts.

You have asked them to not call you again at work. If they call you again at your workplace, then you can file a complaint against them to FTC.
Get to know about the debt first. Make a written request to them for validating the debt.

thanks for your posts --
I actually am not sure who it is for -- I had 3 accounts charge off --
one went to UCB (chase 10K), one to First Source (amex 6k) -- not sure on third -- it might be an amex account --
still have not received invoice from nationwide -- so I will validate --
I did get a letter from amex saying NCO still has account --
I haven't gotten any more calls yet, but If I do I will log them, in the meantime I asked them to send all contact info via correspondence to my house.
and savion -- I did actually speak to 2 credit counseling agencies last year before I even did any settlements -- due to my high housing expenses I cannot do a debt consolidation. I have been trying to sell my house for 3 years. No buyers out there on high end unfortunately. 2 months late on mortgage also.
tyring to stay out of bankruptcy but may have to eventually. trying loan mod for 2nd time now.
settlement offer
Hi --
I got a message from nationwide that they are willing to do 20 percent -- he said 80 percent discount --
I called amex and confirmed with them over the phone that nationwide has the authority to take payments and settle the account for them --
what should I ask for besides a settlement letter if I settle with them -- I am going to ask for installments due to tax reasons --
thank you

A settlement by definition is a lump sum payment. You might get it broken up over maybe 3 months, but I wouldnt count on anything more. They will not give you a long term settlement with a payment plan....it defeats the purpose.

just called them -- settled for 20 percent --

will be 1099 in april at last payment date --
waiting on settlement letter before I do anything --
thank you for your posts!

I received the settlement letter but it was not signed-- it did have all the impt account information on it, and said to make check payable to american express travel related services --
I requested that they send one signed by appropriate person and to include as per our agreement if all payments are satisfied that the account would be settled in full.
waiting on revisions --

got everything -- all done --
my first dealing with a collections agency -- it states both the agency and amex travel services will accept payment --
I also checked on a few sites the debt settlement letter and it is the same as what I got --
I am excited -- 11,000 savings -- great day -- cyber monday --
now 4 more to go -- its been a long haul -- almost a year now --can't wait to say I'm done --
I do believe that right now is a great time to settle (before year end) -- and if you can get the payments extended to next year -- the 1099 will hit for 2012 --
