I am taking a guess that this is Convergys, they have an office
I am taking a guess that this is Convergys, they have an office in Jacksonville, FL, and the main number is 904-636-1000....I have a funny feeling that this is who you are dealing with. Funny thing too, I just got a call from them three days ago. The lady claimed that I owed money for an old eBay account....but my ebay account is still current. Plus, I only buy from ebay, I do not sell, so there is no way for my account to incur any fees. I do not have a paypal account in my personal name, and the account we do have with paypal is current and active as well. The lady refused to listen to me, and when I insisted to her that I was disputing the debt, she said "I'm going to put down here that you are refusing to pay the debt.....you had your chance to handle this and now it's going to mean trouble for you".
By the way, she claimed I owed less than $50.....so I'm not sure exactly what "trouble" she planned on. Anyways, I hung up on her and called back the next day to talk with someone else. I made sure that my dispute was noted...and then, the lady this time started asking questions to verify the account. Turns out, the DOB on the account is for someone much older than I am. Anyways, if it is this CA calling, prepare yourself for some stupidity because they dont have a clue.
American Billing Service
ABS is American Billing Service, and the typically collect on old payday loans. A Florida attorney recently filed "suit against American Billing Services for violations of the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act (FCCPA). The FCCPA was put into place by the state legislator to set a standard of behavior that is acceptable for Florida citizens to protect them from the collection practices of companies with questionable ethics. The remedy for the victims in these cases is up to $1,000 per violation which can stack up quickly if multiple violations have occurred."
Ignore this woman and take whatever steps are necessary to be sure that ABS is penalized for their illegal and unethical practices.
