Hello and thank you for this page!! Also, I would like to thank you in advance for ANY assistance or advice you can provide me. I live in FL, and ran into some financial problems in my last semester of college. I had quite a few charge-offs on my credit report and had AWFUL credit for years. I paid some, and some I didn't. NOW, I WORK DILIGENTLY to maintain my good credit. So, here is my issue- I recently began getting calls from Palisades Collection Agency for an old ATT Wireless debt. I was an employee there and had an outstanding bill. I left the company and came back one final time to pay my bill- which I did in cash, to a lower-level supervisor. Well, I THINK she probably pocketed the money- but my bill was never marked paid. Soo, I am DEFINITELY not going to pay them TWICE. From what I understand, debt in FL has a statute of limitations of 5 years, although it can remain on one's credit report for 7.5 years. So, this should not even be an issue, BUT I got fed up with them calling and two days ago, they called and I answered the phone (BIG mistake- I know now) and told them that this was ridiculously long ago, outside the SOL and that I DID pay it and they could "climb a tree". Umm, MISTAKE!!! I received a notice today from my credit monitoring service that Palisades Collection "accessed" my credit report, making an "inquiry" 2 days ago.
HOW can I get them to leave me alone? And how can I get that removed from my credit report? This was from 1998 - and falls WELL outside the time frame (5 years in FL) as I understand it (and a MAX of 7.5 on my credit report). Can they ACTUALLY come back after all these years and put an old debt BACK on my credit report?
What actions do I have to get them 1) to leave me alone and 2) to remove that notification from my credit report..??
DO I have to pay it...? It is almost 15 years later...? :-x
Thank you for any and all GOOD advice ;-)
