I don???t think so. Putting a hard debit block on your checking account will be beneficial only when the payday lender is illegal in your state. But I think, closing down your bank account will be more preferable than put a hard debit block. What state do you live in? What is the name of the payday loan company?
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A HARD DEBIT BLOCK!! IT IS CALLED A A

You need to revoke ach rights in writing and give a copy to your bank.

My suggestion would be to simply put a stop payment on the check, if that's what you gave them. If they're going to put through an ACH debit transaction, you can stop that too, or revoke ACH permission or have the account put on a deposit only status but all of these options depend on your state's laws. In some states, stopping payment will get you in trouble. Also, take a look at your contract.
Have you tried simply calling them and trying to set up alternate payment arrangements? If you've not yet defaulted on the loan, it's likely they can set you up on an extended payment plan.
