Hi nelly. I rcvd. A collection notice from afni. I sent them a reqst. For proof of debt. It was for a t-mobile bill for $434.88. I was not sure if i owed this. They sent me a letter with an account # and amount stating that this was provided by the original creditor.however, i never lived at the address on the form they sent. I was going through some papers at home today, and found a copy of a check which was paid to t-mobile. $380.00. This helped me to remember that i did pay this as part of an agreement i reached with t-mobile. For full payment. Case closed. Should i send copies of this with a cease and desist letter. Also, my checking account number is on the copy. Should i black out my account info. I don't want afni to have access to my account info. Please respond as promptly as possible. Any guidance would br greatly appreciated. Also. Sincerely, Name removed....some debt collectors view the forums so I removed your name for your privacy.

I would not send them one scrap of personal info. The burden of proof is upon them, not you. I would respond to their "validation" simply by saying that the info they provided identifies someone else, and not you. Tell them that the address listed in their documentation belongs to someone else, and that you have never lived there. I would further say that you have proof that you have no outstanding balance with T-Mobile, that you have records showing that you paid in full, and that you will use all means necessary including legal action against them if they decide to persist in trying to collect a debt from you. Sounds like you are the wrong person--reiterate that to them that the address listed on their "proof" has never been associated with you. your name is not very uncommon, so its possible that they went looking through the phone book, saw your name, and tried to get paid. If you like, you can send me a PM with the address listed on the paperwork they sent you--I have access to some really good databases not available to the general public, and I can look through to try to see what is happening here. Was there any other identifying info in their documentation, such as a date of birth or SSN?

Thanks for your reply Skydivr. I really appreciate it. The address that they sent me was 5201 W. Cullom Ave. Apt-3. Chicago, Il. 60641. I am sending them a Cease and Desist letter, stating that I have never lived at that address and that I have proof of full payment. I am also sending them a copy of a letter from my bank stating that my bank made the payment. And a copy of the check made payable to T-Mobile issued by my bank. I am blacking my account number as I do not want Afni to have any of my account information. Also, thank you very much for taking my name out of my last post. I really appreciate your help. and wish you and your a very Happy New Year. And I also wish you an Afni Free Future. Joeysasa1.:)
