Payday loan advice

I took out a payday loan from 2 companies last year. After I took them out I lost my job and couldn't find work making enough many to make the payments and live. Since then I have become disabled and living off of social security. The bank account that was used has since been closed. 10 months after taking out the loan, they have called my friend saying that they are from a law office with a summons and needed to get ahold of me to serve me. I read a lot online about the so called law office and found them to be a scam. I am just wondering if I can be arrested for defaulting because when I signed up with the one online I gave my bank information and the other I gave a voided check to do an ACH withdrawl. I'm just worried that i'm going to be arrested. I wanted to know if my circumstance is the same as other posts where people responsed stating that it would be a civil matter and not a criminal matter and therefore could not be taken to court and they would just have to file a negative remark or something like that to my credit report as an unpaid debt. Any help would be appreciated. One company was LLS America (Little Loan Shop America) and the other was Ace Cash Express. Thank You

You are right. Non-payment of debt is not a criminal offense. It???s a civil case. So you can never get arrested for that. Try to find out whether or not the pdl companies are licensed in your state. If not, then they won???t be able to take any legal action against you.

Blankspace failed to ask what state you live in....that will determine if your loan is legal or not. LLS is based out of Utah. Ace appears to have store front locations although they do internet loans as well.
