My assistant received a call yesterday from Agent Long from Cohen Schwatz & Assoc. He told her that he was having me served at my place of employment. She frantically called me and gave me his info. I called and he said it was for a CASHNET payday loan a year or so ago. He said his firm was hired by "Empire Asset" and he was sending out a summons today if I didn't take care of the 1000.00. I asked him for his address for a debt validation to be sent to him. I looked to see if he was a legitimate debt collector in Texas with a bond - he isn't. I can't tell if Cashnet is legal, but I think they are. I do remember paying them, so I am confused. I don't have my info file because I moved and can't locate it.
I told him since he is refusing to send me debt validation OR give me his info to send one, to please go ahead and send me the summons (I am no longer in the area).
Cashnet legal in Texas? Cohen Schwartz, can they file suit against me in Texas if they are not legal to collect debts in Texas and I am not sure they are even real lawyers?
I am positive I paid this company, but maybe I didn't . . .

you said just cashnet right?there is a cashnet that is a d/b/a for paydayloan yes that is totally illegal.since this idiot isn't bonded he can't do squat.if they were to sue and you are summoned you can have the suit thrown out on those grounds.you should file a police report and an AG complaint for now,but this sounds like your typical bottomfeeder trying to collect on an illegal loan.btw even if it was casnetusa that is legal since this place isn't bonded any action ca be thrown out so don't worry.btw the threat to serve at work is a scare tactic nothing more.
