So I called back the number when I got to work, and they said it was for a check n go loan. I did have a loan with check n go that I defaulted on. I called check n go because it sounded funny, and the rep for check n go did tell me that the loan had been sold, and she gave me the company's name and representative name. It was not the same, company. She did say that it could have been sold again, but she doubts it. I never heard from the first company they sold it to, so I'm confused.
Any thoughts?

Which state are you in and how long ago did you default on the loan? If the person calls again, ask them for their physical mailing address so that you can send a debt validation letter. If they refuse to give you the information, rest assured that they are trying to scam you.
well...
I defaulted on the loan back in October, check n go said they sold it in December. I asked for a debt validation letter, they said they could email me one, because they already sent one to my address. I've never gotten anything in the mail. The man on the phone also said that he could three way call check n go to prove that they got the loan from check n go. That seems a bit weird, doesn't it?
I'm in the state of Nevada by the way...
Why not call the company CnG told you they sold it to and set up
Why not call the company CnG told you they sold it to and set up a payment arrangement with them? Then if this other company calls back you can tell them to FOAD :)
i agree somewhat
do as ohiogal advises with a twist as what the C-N-G rep said isn't as uncommon as people think.contact the place the rep gave you,but know it might be that it was sold to this hunk of sh*t calling now.if that's the case.you don't pay them.you report them, but again do that.contact that place first and see.
I am NEVER getting a PDL again!
Ok, so I did some calling around this morning, and I got in touch with the company that Check n Go sold my loan to. Its called United Debt Holding. I called the company, and they said that they were not a collection agency, but that my loan had been given to VCS (either Viking collection agency, or Vision collection agency. I don't know since I can only leave a message, I can't get an actual person)
I still haven't called back the man that called me yesterday. I was so frustrated that he said that he was going to email me the debt validation letter instead of mailing it to me. He claims something was sent to my house, but I know that it was not, I check my mail every single day, and I have gotten nothing.
So I don't know where to go from here. I know that Check n Go is legal in Nevada, and I want to schedule payments to pay this debt off, but I don't know what to do now. I feel that I am getting the run around!
it's vision
they are vision and they are a bottomfeeder in NY.will try to effort an address, but you don't think about paying this piece of slime without an address from a collection letter.btw alot say that they sent something, but it's usually BS.i know c-n-g is a legal lender, but they sold it to a couple of bottomfeeders as united is another bottomfeeder as well.they are a CA/JDB.so until you actually get a letter ignore them.i would file AG complaints as again both united and vision are bottomfeeders and need to be reported, not paid.
ughh jeez...
I'm just worried. I checked my credit report again today and no lender legal or illegal has reported to my credit report yet, and I defaulted back in October. The only lender reporting is CashCall, and that's just a whole other story in itself. I know the number of the man that called me at work yesterday was(800) 290-1065.
I know that I have read posts that check n go will go to small claims court, and I really don't want to have a judgement on my credit report since I'm trying my hardest to rebuild by score and credit now. So what steps can I take? And why would a legal company like Check n Go sell their loans to bottomfeeders?
this is different
yes c-n-g sometimes does take you to court, but not when they sell the debt.once that happens they are out of the picture entirely.they are known for selling debt.they don't really look into a place they sell it to.btw they have been sued before(class action style)so while they are legal they don't always play by the rules.when it comes to these bottomfeeders the FDCPA applies and you need to exercise your rights under it.
