collection call

I received a call in regards to fraudulent activity attached to my ss#. When I called the company I asked who I was calling and the person said she worked for various attorneys. She proceeded to ask my case number they left I gave it to her and then she wanted to verify my email address and ss#. I asked her what this was in reference to and she was going around in circles with me that she needed to verify my email and ss#. I verified my email only and still she would not give me no information so I asked her to mail me the information and she declined she needed to verify my ss#. Then I told her I would not give her that information she gave me the last 4 of my ss# but when I kept insisting to know what was this about she became upset and said"you are not understanding me." I replied I am and then she hung up. Could this have been a fraudulent call?

More than likely a scam; if I get a call like that, even if they read off my Social Security #, I don't even say yes or no if it's correct. If you feel like talking to them, tell them to send you something in writing. Otherwise, do what I do and just hang up. they can't threaten a dial tone.
