settle with no derog on Credit Report?

I am being told by others that have settled their CC debt that there is a way to settle for less than the full amount due and the creditor will report as paid but NOT include the wording 'for less than amount due' and the balance is showing as $0 -
How is that getting done?

Creditors , at least the big one's are not doing pay for deletes. When less is paid than the full balance, it states that on the credit report. This is accurate reporting. There is no benefit for them to report differently.
