This afternoon I received a call from brother-in-law who I see approximately 3 times per year stating that someone from United Litigations called him trying to find me. They gave him my married name and my maiden name and asked him several questions; however, they would not give him any information other than that I had two charges against me and that they were trying to reach me to "serve" me with papers. They gave him a phone number 877-258-8587 and a case #.

I have NO IDEA how they got his name or phone number...I have never listed him as a reference, emergency contact or anything else...I only see him at Christmas and once a year at a family bday gathering! I actually have to look up his number when I want to call him! My only guess is they tried to find info on my husband and my brother-in-law's name came up somehow. Can they call him???

I am not going to lie...I did take out a payday loan that I have not repaid! For that I am ashamed & I do plan to pay it eventually. I realize that this is wrong and that it is no excuse really, but my husband was laid off from work and had been out of work and desperately searching for employment for more than a year! I did what I had to do to save my house!

The payday loan was with EZ Loans. I did give them a check and made a couple of payments; however, when I absolutely couldn't make payments anymore I sent them a later revoking my permission for them to turn my check into an ACH transaction and I notified my bank not to accept any ACH transactions from them. They called for a while and then I stopped hearing from them...that was about 8 months ago, now all of a sudden this!

Does anyone know what my rights are and what they can and can not do to me or to my family? I do NOT want to give them access to my bank account or debit card!

I am new to this site and I don't know how long to expect to wait for an answer or feedback for my previous post. Help...please! Thank you!:)

This is a volunteer board....length of time for an answer can vary.

Ok...for starters...you CANNOT be served charges for a payday loan....debts are civil, not criminal. What United Litigations is going is illegal. They are a total SCAM...so stay off the phone. File a complaint with your state AG's office.

EZ Loans....do you have a website or full name for them? Also, what state do you live in??

Thank you for letting me know how this works! I'm sorry, I was wrong in my previous post, the name of the payday loan company is EZ Money. They have a webstore, but I went to the store front location. I live in TX. Thank you in advance for any information/help you can offer!

how much was the loan?you see texas is pretty consumer friendly when it comes to debts, and collectors.first you are in a non-garnishment state.second no lein can be put on your property(assuming you own property).this united litigations is your typical debt buying frumunda cheese that needs to break the law.which they did with their call to your brother-in-law.EZ money sold your info to this piece of garbage.they have it,but this is how slime operate.embarass you by calls like that.now have your brother-in-law file a police report and you alert others to this group of losers.i noticed you said you didn't speak to EZ money.well that is why they sold it.communication is essential, but that doesn't excuse united litigation.report and ignore because as ohiogal says.always pay the original lender.never a 3rd party especially a lawbreaking one.

Thank you for the info! They are saying I owe something like $2,000, but the original loan was only for like $700 so I guess all the other is the interest, fees, etc... I was going to call them and tell them not to contact my family members again; however, I am now wondering if it would be better not to...if calling my family gets me to call & complain then they get me on the phone...which I am assuming was the point in the first place. Is that correct?

I'm confused about what you said previously about TX being a nongarnishment state...I know that student loans and taxes can be garnished from your wages because it has happened to one of my family members. Do student loans and taxes fall under a different category?

I'm also confused about the property lien...my brother is a plumber and I know that he sometimes has to file liens against his customers property when they don't pay their bill.

I do see how those might different types of circumstances, but would appreciate clarification. Thank you again for the help!

Stay off the phone....and just warn your family to hang up...you are being scammed.

Federal debts and child support are garnishable in TX.

Once a judgment is rendered, a lien is placed on property. Your brother does what I think is called a Mechanics Lien.

I can not thank you enough for the help! I will ignore their calls and already told my family to do the same! Hopefully they won't continue to call them!

I feel much better now! :D
