debt collector - fake or real?

My wife fell victim to an email scam promising her $1 million + in return for her sending them money to start. She took out payday advance loans back in November. After she told me about them a month later I proved to her it was a scam. She finished paying off the last of the loans she new about back in Feb/March.
Today she received a letter from a "Law Firm of Presley Smith" in Savannah claiming she owes OnlineAdvance $1050. The letter goes on to state that they are sending this letter despite repeated attempts to contact her.
Two things make me wary of this.
First, my wife had a foreign sounding (Indian, I believe) collector contact her last month trying to strongarm her into making a delinquent payment. He used an American name like Jack O'Connell or something (definitely didn't sound like it), had the phone number and ID hidden from our home's caller ID, and threatened police action. It took a lot but I convinced my wife that he was a scam using the fact that she had made several payday advance loans and he was trying to fake her into thinking she had neglected to pay one off.
Second, we have received no prior communication from this alleged Law Firm before this so the line about 'previous communication attempts failing' concerns me as well.
If she really owed $1050 since before New Year's, I think they would have contacted us before now.
What's your opinion?
Bill

This new one simply says that all previous attempts to contact have failed. I just mentioned the previous one to show that scammers have tried to get more out of her since March when she supposedly paid everything off.
I'm just wondering if this new "Presley Smith Law Firm" is another attempt to scam or if she actually missed paying one.
