30 days ago, I sent a debt validation request letter to a collection agency because I felt the debt was bogus. They haven't responded, though I do have the return receipt stating they received my letter. I'm wondering if I should send a final letter, telling them that their 30 days have expired and that they're required to no longer attempt to collect on the debt. If that's the case, are there any other things I should mention in the letter? Maybe reminding them that if they reported their collection attempt to credit agencies that they have to get it removed?

unless you live in TX there is no timeframe to validate.however they can't attempt further collection activity without validating.i do have one question though.you mention a CR entry.was this on there before,or after you sent the letter?if after then you dispute it.if before it still will show, but it show as disputed.again unless you are in TX there is no timetable to validate a debt, but there can be no further collection activity.

Dang it, I was getting confused with the FCRA. Who's bright idea was it to name two bills "Fair...Acts"?

Secondary question, then...what constitutes "proof?" I got a response originally from them and all they included was an invoice I'd never seen along with my lease, which mentions nothing about having to pay for the items they alleged I owed. In addition, the math on the invoice was wrong (probably by the apartment management company). To me, none of that is proof. Wouldn't proof need to be something I signed stating I agreed to pay for re-painting and such things?
