Depends a lot on the number of creditors you have enlisted with them. They might start the negotiation process within 15 days of first contact or wait till you have paid them their monthly fees.
time frame
If you choose a consolidation company, hopefully you will do some research on that comapny. I dealt with a few in the past and they were nothing but people that wanted to take every penny I had. They didn't even contact my creditiors. At one point in time, I was paying the comapny AND my creditiors because (acoording to the consolidation company) I was in a "binding contract to pay them." It was a mess and finally found myself out of it.
