I took out a loan from Plain Green for $800 and have since made paid them more than the principal amount. I followed the instructions here in the forum, closed the account and sent them the form letter. I got a call at work this morning and was told that this is not a "payday" loan but is a "short term installment loan" but is set up like a pdl. Am I wrong about this? Do I need to continue with 18 payments of $116.23 on an $800 loan? I have seen on here that because it is a tribal loan that it is illegal in all states? Is that true? I want to do the right thing but at the same time, I need to get myself out of this mess of pdl's that I have gotten myself into. Please give advise.

So how do I find out definately? Tribal lenders cannot lend in certain states?

Plain Green does NOT have a license to lend in Virginia. This is typical of tribal lenders. This statement on their disclosure page says it all...
Applicable Law and Dispute Resolution

This Agreement and all other aspects of your use of the Site shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation, Montana, to the extent applicable, to the laws of the United States.
Laws applicable to you depend on the state YOU live in...you are not a member of their tribe and you are not bound by their laws.

I am trying to find the area in Virginia law that says they have to be licensed in the state. The difficulty I am having is that they state this is a short term installment loan and not a payday loan. I cannot find anything that states that installment loans on the internet, regardless of tribal or not, are illegal in Virginia. If you have a reference for me, I would greatly appreciate it. I am not very good with legal jargon.

I really appreciate the help you have given me so far by the way. You are a RockStar!

Sincerely,

Bruce
