old debt

I just received a letter telling me that I still owned on an account that was paid off in 2009. When I try to contact Pallisades Collection by phone, the first thing that they ask for is my ssn or debtor id. I give them my debtor id and then I'm put on hold forever. What gives with these people, and what kind of recourse do I have?

Send them a letter disputing the validity of the debt and supply proof if you have it. Dont bother with the phone.

do you have anything in writing that this is paid?was it paid in full,or settled?is this on your credit report as paid?who was the creditor,or CA that was paid?what state are you in?i need more details,but if you have a letter stating the debt was paid then send a copy of the letter with a C&D along with it.please answer my questions as it will help us help you better.
