I live in alaska and received a 600.00 payday loan from AdvanceMeToday. I have paid 1858.00 currently. I sent them a letter stating the laws of alaska and asked them to consider this paid in full.
I received the following reply:

Please be aware that this is a St. Vincent company, St Vincent and the United States are both parties to the General Agreement on Trade in Services, a treaty which specifically permits companies in one country to make consumer loans to citizens of the other.

Under the treaty, we are only obligated to follow the federal laws of the United States. We are not required to obtain state licenses and individual state laws do not apply since the federal laws adopting this treaty supersede any state's laws on the subject.

What does this mean?

they are full of crap and are feeding you a line.no such treaty exists.your state law prevails.respond to that this way.

since i am not a resident of st.vincent i am not subject to your laws.further more the treaty you stated is meaningless.nice try.

respond that way.

They won't go away..at least not yet in my case. I sent my letters 2 weeks ago and received the same response you did. I replied and they went away for about a week. Then I got a voice mail today asking me to call them to make payment arrangements.
I sent another email today requesting they DO NOT call me and only contact me via email. We'll see if they stop. I'm hopeful, but skeptical since they are not based in the US.
