So i work for a canadian collection agency that collects in u.s and canada and i have heard that sum of are acts are illegal. what do i look for and what do i do once i get it ?

I don't think cross border collection is actually legal. You have a couple of options, check your company's license and see if they have a registered business address and license in the US. If not, you can write to the FTC detailing your finds. I'm not very sure about the Canadian authority designated to handle such infractions.

Beware, whistle blowers are not taken to very kindly. Although in my opinion, you are doing a good thing. Such illegal practices need to be stopped.

Ok well they dot there I's with the states its the canadian. like are u not suppose to have a independnt collection license to collect in canada ? And the manager he talks around everything. ex u take a sick day they demand a doctore's note and when u ask him about things that happen such as that he just talks in circles like we are morons makes me think they are hiding more then they want us to know.

yes, cross border collections is quite legal. There are many major collection agencies that have both canandian and US offices and as long as the agency is licensed in the US and follows the FDCPA, they are perfectly legal. A collection agency that resides only in canada can collect in the US provided again that they are licenced in the individual states they are collecting in if required and follow the FDCPA.
The province that the agency is located in should have licensing data bae for canadian collections.

As for a doctors note, that has nothing to do with collections...that is company policy.
