I live in New york state. How can I get 2 garnishments in 2010 from bills in the 1990s if it is illegal (another post) ? I am on Social Security Disability and they put 2 garnishments against me in Court. One I didn't know about because they "duck-taped" it to my prior address 0on the back door (even though they were sending threatning letters to my address here !!!) Now I am getting more for the same bills !!!!! I don't know what to do !!

They can???t garnish your social security benefit as it is exempted from garnishment. Moreover the SOL period for New York is 6 years that means it has already expired. Since the SOL period has expired, the creditors won???t be able to take any legal action against you. Contact with the court and tell them about this issue.

WHat do you mean they put 2 garnishments against you court. SSDI is not garnishable. Are you talking about judgments or bank levies???
