First, it is not about the credit report--it is about the statute of limitations for judgments in your states. You need to check to see that info for the state you live in. Also, did the judgment happen in a court in your state, or in a different state than where you live now? it makes a difference.

Judgments have a statute of limitations, and in many states, the creditor can renew the judgment before it expires, simply by appearing at the court before the date of expiration. When a judgment is renewed, it is like starting the SOL clock all over again. For example, if your state's SOL is 10 years, and ABC bank got a judgment against you 9 years ago, they can go to the court and renew the judgment, and then they would have 10 more years to collect.
