getting threating calls from a new york number

Hi Soap Lady,
I noticed that you seem to have some really good answers for people. I am a little bit frightened by what happened to me today.
I recieved a call from a man who claimed to be with a law firm in New York and that he was walking across the street to file felony fraud charges on me, for writing a check to a payday advance place in 2009. ( I have never heard of this company and never got a check book for the account he claims I used) He says they have me on tape writing this check and he had my ss# and my address (current) he also had my previous name and address from 2008 (not 2009) when I asked him how it was possible that a company in New York was going to have me arrested in Washington for something that may have happened in Utah he got very belligerent and told me to find someone too watch my babies because I was going to prison. Am I really going to be arrested in front of my children? I am a stay at home mom.

Relax...it is a total scam. Debts are civil, not criminal...you cannot be arrested. Report them to your state AG's office and the FTC.
