I received a phone call at my office. Caller ID said "Sheriffs Office." They asked for HR and said they needed to serve papers for an employee on a Criminal Case. I was that employee and when I asked for more info, they couldn't tell me. They asked me what showed on caller ID?!
This case was a payday loan and I sent the collection agency a certified letter requesting proof that I owed it. I never heard back from them.
WHAT NOW? Can they use the sheriffs number? I am scared to death!!!

there was no number.just sheriffs office.it was an illegal caller id spoof.report that call to your police department.bottomline the loser broke the law,and your police will confirm that.then fill your boss, and HR person that this is a scammer you reported to the police.then ignore,or laugh at furture calls.a total scammer, and loser.

It did list a number, but the person had an accent and the phone was scratchy and we got disconnected three times!
I am so scared...should I call the Sheriff and verfy the call?

Call the police and file a complaint. There's nothing to verify. Debts are not criminal cases, they're civil. This is a scammer who's trying to scare you into giving them money. Don't let them. If they call again, tell them you've filed a complaint with your local police/sheriff and that all further calls will be ignored.

I can't believe that these places can use legitimate phone numbers to call and threaten people! They asked for my HR department and said I never called back. I did not call, but sent certified mail. They never responded. I am so sick and now they talked to my HR department and said god know swhat about me?!!!
