I'm troubled on whether to keep paying the minimum payment on my current debt with the or to try a consolidation program which would reduce my debt in a shorter time but go against my credit. How can I figure which is the best route for me to take?

You could be sued either ways, with or without enrolling yourself with a debt consolidation program. If you are feeling confident enough to negotiate settlements or payment plans with your creditors, you can just as well do it yourself.

Everything depends on a couple of points:

1. How much do you love your credit score? A DCP is going to send it six feet under. If you don't have anything for your credit score, enrolling does not matter much.

2. What is the total debt amount? Really really really large and multiple amounts are a burden and a DCP wouldn't be all that bad if you are not confident enough to do your own negotiations.
