You need to place a dispute on this item with Equifax by giving all proof from your side. Get in writing from Asset Acceptance that the account is believed to be fraud.
You should also send copies of your credit report from the other two bureaus and make your claim stronger. After all the valid information given by you, Equifax will verify the item with the company for accurate information. If nothing gets proven, the account must be removed from your file.
Send your dispute through certified mail with return receipt requested. This will ensure that the bureau has received your letter and are required to give results within 30 days. This period will begin from the date you placed the item on dispute.
I'm not real clear on why asset acceptence is saying its a fraud
I'm not real clear on why asset acceptence is saying its a fraud account?? you were an authorized user on girlfriends card, so why are they saying its fraud. I have a couple of accounts that my husband is an authorized user on, obviously they're on my report, since they're mine, but they were also listed on my husbands report. I had them removed after disputes of letting bureaus know that they were my accounts only. I'm not sure about this 'fraud' deal? I find this to be very confusing too. But as David said, you should continue to dispute with Equifax, sometimes it just takes several times and maybe getting the right person, to get it cleared. Don't give up!! Shirley

Hi Shirley, How have you been? Didn't see you here for quite sometime.
It might be possible that there are no records of this particular account with Providian as well as Asset Acceptance. Hence they have been successful in removing it from the reports of the other two bureaus. Since Equifax is not willing to remove the item, they are asking Equifax to run an investigation. With all the proof available, Equifax might remove the item.

Hi David!! I have been in and out of the forum alot, here and there but have also been busy in the 'real' world with doctors and dentist appointments, also having to drive my daughter back and forth to school---shes been getting alot of my time lately. I had car problems and had to put it in the shop this week, and so we were down to my husbands truck. I had to have the truck so I could drive my daughter back and forth to school and doctors appointments, so that meant me having to also drive my husband back and forth to work. He works around 35 miles from home. Then, we had major bad weather here last weekend and I lost my internet connection for the whole weekend and the early part of the week. When I do come in, I check the 'new' post to see if theres anything I can do, most of the time its already covered, unless I can add something from my own experience. Also, I have been helping a few people through emails. They read my post and write (because of my personal experience). I encourage them to come to the group and post so they can get help and opinions from everyone. But some people are a little shy about coming out in front of other people with their problems. Which I don't mind. Either way I am helping people, and thats always a good thing, right??? So David, I'm still here!!!!! not going anywheres. Its just, sometimes the 'real' world calls and I can't put it off and can't get on the internet as much as I would like. thanks for noticing! It was just a CRAZY week last week!!!!!! hugs, shirley

Hi Shirley, it's nice to know that you are catching people's attention and they are taking your suggestions through emails also. And kind of help is good if you are willing to give it! I can understand when personal problems come up from all corners. Nothing to worry! It's part of life. This board will always long for your log in. :)

Hi Shirley!! It's good to see you, but I wish I could actually "See" you in your avatar still! Cute doggie though :)
I noticed that you said that you were able to have some accounts removed from your hubby's credit report since he was an authorized user. Could you tell me a bit more about the process you used to do this? 50% of the problems on my credit report are from me being an authorized user on somebody else's accounts and such, that I never once used. If I was able to remove these things from my credit report, that would be a HUGE boost in my score, and in how I feel about the road ahead as well! Please help me out here Shirley, I am excited to hear what you have to say!! (and we missed you!)
~Mary :)

Hey Mary!!! I thought I would give everyone a break from looking at me...and put my dobie, 'butcherman' on here. I made him into a blinkie last night. :D
Anyways, I first disputed with the credit bureaus with a whole list of things. They wrote back to show what they fixed and what they did not fix. Out of that I noticed that my accounts were still on hubbys reports. I then used the 'online' option to dispute. I sent in several. I sent one in about my accounts being on his report, and then how they had one of his accounts reported twice. Equifax responded by sending me new credit reports. This past week, I got three in a row-weds,thurs, and friday! I don't know why they didn't just do them all in one report. I still have more to dispute though. He has an account that is being reported by original creditor and now by collection agency. They're not suppose to do that, and I've already had one removed for this very reason.
I was just thinking today, I have to sit down again with all three reports and see that they're all reading the same now, or whats not and start disputing again so that they all show the same thing--before my time runs out. man, this is work, but if you're pursistant, it does pay off. At least with the things that are 'fixable'. Hope I've helped.
They are still saying that the Dell accounts are ours. which, that was never a doubt or dispute. I never said they weren't ours. I'm just trying to get them to see that Dell won't talk to me, or validate when I ask them to, yet they are talking to the credit bureaus. The same with the wells fargo account.
I'm not sure anything can be done---. shirley
Well, I like lookin' atcha, you are a cutie :) Ooh. I wonder
Well, I like lookin' atcha, you are a cutie :)
Ooh. I wonder if I could dispute these online then? The actual user of the accounts (my ex) is totally willing to write a letter saying that I am not responsible for the accounts...I wonder if I should attach that letter to a letter from me requesting that it be taken off? Not sure how to go about this one. I guess I can make a big letter with all of the issues I have with the credit report and go from there!
Another question that I just came up with...do I need to wait to get a validation letter from the collection agency before I dispute the item with the bureaus? I have an account that I would like to dispute, but I did send a debt validation letter on the 15th. Should I wait for that letter, or take care of that separately? Boy, I am full of questions today :)
I hope that your credit reports are all the same now, wouldn't that be nice? :) What do you mean by "before my time runs out"?
It's a bummer that you are still dealing with that Dell problem...I hope that gets cleared up for you soon, how ridiculous!!!!

Just me giving you my opinion now, this is what I would do. I'm not sure that it will do you any good, but how do we know that anything we do, regarding disputes with the credit bureaus, will do any good? We just do them and see what the outcome is, right? so if I was you, I'd go for it. It definitely can't hurt!

How long ago did you send them the validation letter? If its only been a short while, like less than 30 days, then I would wait and give them the chance to respond. BUT if your situation is like mine, they're not going to!!! and no, you don't have to have a validation letter from collection agency before you can dispute. At least, I didn't. Actually, this is WHY I am disputing because collection agency WON'T validate. I just noticed that you said you sent out the request on the 15th. If it were me, I would go ahead and include it in your dispute. That way the bureaus can do the leg work for you and come back and tell you what they found in their investigations. And you'll already have the investigation going while you're waiting to hear from the collection agency---which trust me, its a HUGE hit and miss here. More times than not, its a miss. I've only gotten a true validation twice in all of my letter writing. And both of those times, I DIDN'T even ask for it!!! LOL!!! can't seem to get anyone to do it when I ask.
Ask away girl. Thats how you learn and how you get things done!!! Don't be afraid to ask questions, thats what we're all here for. Hope I have helped. :D

Oh yeah, and I forgot to answer your question about what I meant when I said 'before my time runs out'. when you get a report from the bureau, they give you a confirmation number and a code to access the account on line. This is only good for so long. And you only have so long to dispute the report they send you, I think its 60 days. :) This is what I meant.

Thanks so much Shirley, you are such a cool friend, you are so helpful for me!! I am glad I have ya :)
I am definitely going to try sending the letter to the bureaus. It can't hurt, and I think it will help! It's all about positive thinking :)
I only sent the validation letter a few days ago. I doubt that I will get any back, and besides that, as I mentioned in another post while you were gone, I am almost positive that 2 of the 4 letters sent go to accounts that are not mine! So even if they do write me back, I doubt that they can validate. So yay for me!
So I am going to write a huge letter with all my problems to each of the credit bureaus...and of course, each bureau is reporting something different, so I'm going to have to write specific letters for each one. A pain in the butt, but if it gets even one account reported correctly, it will be worth it!!!
