Hello, due to medical expenses, going on disability, and attorney fees for my home that is headed to foreclosure, I am considering stopping payment and settling on 1 or more cards.

I have $5000 on my Juniper Card, and my number one choice to settle with. This card is not in my husbands name.

Capital 1 $2000 (mine)
Capital 1 $3000 (husband)

Target $700 (Just me)

Citibank $3000 (husband & me)

Our credit has already tanked, but I am concerned about being able to rent in the near future. I have noticed in my research that Citi and Cap 1 or more difficult to settle with than Juniper. Do you agree?
Thank you!

Capital One will sue for a debt as low as 300 dollars. They are also very hard to settle with... you'd be lucky to get a 70% settlement offer if you don't pay it for 6 months. Have you tried to call the CC companies and ask for a hardship program? I sent you a PM with a direct line to the capital one executive response team... you don't have to key in anything, someone will just answer. Let them know of your problems and ask if you can set up some kind of hardship plan. They are all American and will likely understand your concern. If the rep isn't cooperating, hang up and redial - see if you get someone else. I used to work in that department and can vouch that most of them are all great and willing to do anything to help someone facing problems like you are right now.

As for citi, I don't know anyone over there in their CC division (only banking) but I sent you a phone number that might help. The Juniper card is through Barclays, correct? Why do you want to settle that over the others? Just curious. I hope you get back on your feet soon.
