I was recently served papers on a non-payment of a credit card from 1999. When I call the collection agency. They say it was for a chase bank card in 1999. I don't recall having a credit card in 1999. How am I able to find out if this is my debt? If my account debt has been bought and sold several times since 1999, how am I able to tell who is the original creditor? The debt recovery place only wants to know if I am going to pay the debt. They were not very friendly. The original card they say was 2,500 now with the fees over 12 years the balance is 14,458.00. I am feeling crazy. Thanks, Tracy

The statue of limitations may be nearing, so it is a last chance for an outside agency to legaly attempt to collect on that debt. Responding may set clock again.
check your credit report, it may show this item, as a charge off, with a date in the very near future that it will report until. maybe doing nothing will solve your dillema.
