can a check cashing business send you to jail if you do not pay them back on time?

Danny

Welcome to the forums! A check cashing company cannot send you jail. You have no worries. Technically the payday loan companies are considered unsecured debt. Writing a post dated check cannot be guaruntee that funds will be there on time. Please read over your loan agreement carefully and see if there is mention of a wage assignment. These are also voluntary and you can take these back.

If a check cashing company hires a local attorney in your town, and you appear before a judge who finds in favor of the loan company, and requires you pay back the loaned amount, and you quit your job, and refuse to pay back te courts, then....only then, would you be in contempt of court, and find yourself in a pickle.

Regards-
Mike

You can't be sent to jail for not paying the debt. If the company is making such threats, consult your attorney regarding this matter. In most cases, a judgment can be awarded in cases of regular defaults.

Talk to the company and arrange a payment plan with them. If you can send them some money along with your proposal, your proposal might become more effective. Ensure them that you will stick to your payments and pay it in full. I believe if you can take care of this problem, things will shape up in a better way.
