LVNV collection letter
Generally speaking, sending a cease communication letter to LVNV will stop collection efforts.
You may be in a good position to send a cease communication letter when you are past the SOL for the debt collector/debt owner to legitimately use the courts in your state to collect.
If you have been getting LVNV letters for 7 years, the account went without payment for 7.5 years by now, so the original creditor you missed payments to should no longer show on your credit report. Be sure to check your report for any debt collector or debt buyer reporting on this same account. If there is reporting related to this account, you should be able to dispute the entry off.
You may see additional collection efforts from other collectors later on. Here again, a cease communication letter, sent certified mail return receipt, should stop collection efforts.
If collection efforts do persist after you know the agency has received your cease communication letter, take good notes. Keep track of day and time of calls, what was said and by whom. Keep copies of any collection letters you receive from an agency AFTER you know they received your cease communication letter. That type of collection behavior is actionable.
