Are you in Maryland? If so, this is a scam as payday loans are illegal in MD. DO Not Send any money or give them any information.

It's not for a payday loan it's for a JCpenny credit card. Just really do not know what to do at this point. Was on the phone till 10PM last night.

This sounds like a scam. Did you call your card company to verify placement?

Yeah, it is highly suspect that they will not accept any payment accept a western union. You should do what was suggested and contact JC Penny and find out who has the debt, if it is still owned by them and being collected on their behalf or if it has been sold.

If it has been sold the account could have passed through many hands depending on the age of the debt. If this is the case then demand validation in writing.

I found a link about this company. I would not send anymore money without a validation. Please take a second to look at this links. I had a company get 900 dollars out of me without sending a validation letter, I was not well versed in debt collection practices, but I have been learning.

What did you find out from the lawyer about the company? Make sure to do research on the law company as well. Hope everything works out.
