Payday loan collection problem
Date: Wed, 10/17/2012 - 17:50
On 10/17/2012, my wife received a phone call from (806)397-0019. The man on the phone claimed to be Frank Roberts a professional locator. He told my wife that he needed to deliver charges and paperwork to me. When she asked questions he refused to answer. When I picked up the phone, he said that he needed to deliver charges and paperwork to me. I asked who it was from and he said that he could not tell me and that I needed to call (888)816-9092 and that the case number is 188528. When I called, the lady on the phone told me that it is a debt from a payday loan company on June 26, 2008. I was then asked if I intended to commit fraud against this company. I said no. I was then told that I could setup payment arrangements and that they would stop the charges. The debt amount they said is $504. They were willing to settle for $225. My wife sat next to me and heard and witnessed this phone call. What should I do?

Whatever you do, do not pay a cent to this person. Ask for debt verification letter (if he refuses, then that's a big red flag). Sounds like a scam artist to me.

First of all, you don't ask for a debt verification letter. That makes no sense. What you would do is send a debt validation request letter.
Either way, that doesn't apply here.
This is a scammer. Report the phone number, tell them you know this is a scam and then ignore any future calls.
