I live in NJ and had a mortgage on a house that was in MI with a company based in CA. Due to unfortunate circumstances in 2007 I offered the house to the mortgage company who just told me to put it up for sale and then they stopped sending me bills and did not contact me.

In 2011 the house was foreclosed due to unpaid taxes by MI. But the debt is still listed on the credit report as out for collection. Would NJ statute of limitations apply or MI statutes or CA statutes? For the removal from the credit report.

Or should this have been removed due to the foreclosure superseding the debt?
