I'm not sure what to do. I took out a payday loan over the phone over a year and a half ago for $400. I have been paying back $149 every 2 weeks till this past November. I found out that my balance was almost $700!!!! $900+ if they add on all the late fees. It is hard to get any help from them about paying this off. They are always very pushy & don't really seem to care that I have paid them well over $2,000 for a $400 loan. Every single person I have spoken with there has a very thick accent from somewhere like India. I have tried to find out if they are legal in my state & can't get any real answers or help. Just need some advise on what to do.

United Credit
Loan for $400..... Paid back over $2,000
I live in Louisiana

Thanks

I had closed my previous bank acct as it got hacked into. When I opened my new acct (at same bank) I never gave them my new acct info. They were calling like 5 times a day. I ignored their calls as I was trying to figure out what to do. About 2 weeks ago, my new acct had a transaction from them trying to withdrawal the payment. I NEVER gave them my new acct info! I called my bank to see what was going on because at the time I didn't know it was them, it just showed someone tried to wirhdrawl $150, which I didn't have so it got declined. The guy at the bank did some looking and told me it was from United Credit. I told him that I didn't authorize that transaction & he said sometimes if you authorize a transaction in a different acct and that one gets closed & you open a new one that they can "search" the bank to find the new or opened acct to wirhdrawl the funds. So I went to the bank the next day & closed that acct & did not open a new one with them. I am going to a different bank. Since I closed that second acct I have not had one single phone call from them. It has been almost 2 weeks..... So that's where I am....

Ignore the calls. They are illegal and they know it. If the calls persist, report to your state's AG and the FTC. Remember, debts are civil, not criminal. You cannot be prosecuted.

The accounts were not to be linked because my other acct had gotten hacked into & drained, so when I closed that one & opened the new one the bank knew the situation.
How would I get a refund?? How they have been, I really dont think they would.
So, I just don't answer and hope the calls stop?

Thank you for all of the advice!

Max term for payday loans in your state is 60 days and roll overs are not permitted. As Paul said, use the link in my signature line to shut them down. And keep in touch!!!

I have not heard back from United Credit until today. The lady told me that o must pay the balance of $968 in full or action will be taken. I just told her that I felt that I have paid enough and that I could not pay anymore and that I would call back once I figure something out. I started looking on the Internet the see what I could find out about the number she called from. I found that that number is connected to 3 other payday loan companies. They all have different names, locations and co tact numbers but their website is the same!!!
Here are the ones I found that call from this number for collections or customer support as they call it.
The number is 800-211-1805

United credit line - located in Miami Fl with contact number 800-983-6313
American credit line - located in Houston Tx contact number 800-211-1794
Gallery cash now- located in Chicago Il contact number 800-226-2474

All have similar emails.... Support@americancreditline... Support@unitedcredtline.....support@gallercashnow

I have emailed them in the past (support@unitedcreditline) and never received a response. When I had asked long time ago to get my due date changed, I was told that I had to email a copy of my bank statement that shows my direct deposit paycheck. I was to email it to that email & I asked if I needed to send it to a specific person & was told no because they all can see that email. I did that & called and was told that they never received it. I did it 2 more times & again they never received it. After that I just gave up & my due date stayed the same. That was over a year ago.

Now I'm just wondering what to do?? Just ignore the calls or what?

I would call the FTC about the bank giving out your personal account information with out your authorization. If you revoked ACH authorization and gave your bank the copies they are liable for the funds coming out. I would start with the bank and see what they say - not a teller talk to a manager..

However if you never revoked ACH authorization you may be at a loss and would still want to do.. follow the link below in my signature for information on how to deal with illegal unlicensed lenders.

I would also file a compliant against the bank who basically gave out your new account information without authorization. If you specified that they be linked in no way...
