Pay day loan on cancelled account
Date: Sun, 02/10/2013 - 11:48
My husband recieved a call from a company that said we had gotten a payday loan 8 yrs ago and we owe over $500. The problem I have is I do not remember getting a payday loan that long ago and also the bank account they are saying we used was closed do to fraud on the account with a stolen used bank card, and further more I do not even remember ever having checks for this account. They said if we dont pay then he will file criminal charges of fraud against us and gave him an extension over the weekend. We have asked for proof of the account for the obvious shady reasons and they have refused and said the burden of proof that we dont owe is on us. Any suggestions on how to stop the calls or handle the situation

Debts are civil, not a criminal offense. So you can’t get arrested or go to jail for not paying them. Don’t worry, they are scammers, just trying to scare you. File a complaint against them to the SAG or FTC.
