criminal action with payday loan in texas

we have been notified by collection agency regarding a defaulted payday loan.
they are threating criminal action against us unless we pay an unreasonable payment schedule.
i owe 800 they want 400 now and 400 next week. I am a full time student and do not have the money.
I can not do that. I do want to clear this up but not in such a hard hit.
they are threating with theft bycheck.
what are my options

Who are they?
Who is the company that is threatening you? The name of the payday company. Is it a store front? If it is an online company then its definitely not check fraud, did you ever write them a check?
