Federal student aid relief company

Hello I just called a company that offered to help remove the default off of my student loans, they required a fee I'd 499.00 to remove the debt, they also said that I would not have to pay an upfront cost, is that a normal procedure for student loan default companies?

DO NOT send the a dime!!! I am assuming this is a federal loan....all they will do is send you a Direct Loan Consolidation application.....which is free!!!
