(1) A lot of firms charge hefty up-front fees of between 10% - 15% of the total debt outstanding, which can mean consumers have to pay thousands of dollars to these firms before they will start performing any work.
(2) A lot of credit card companies, such as American Express, will not work with any debt relief company.
(3) A debt relief company's instruction to their customer to stop paying their creditors often leave the customer worse off, in the form of bad credit, higher interest rates, late fees, and creditors filing a law suit to collect their money.

i am a advid fox news watcher, and i can honestly say i just dont agree with this statement. First of all alot of these companies are but if you do the proper research you will find one that works well with you and fit your needs. Now i can see how they would come to this conclusion because you are paying someone for something you could do yourself and save a butt load of money. but this is just not in the cards for some people. but you are always better off to deal with it yourself if possible.
I have to comment
Clark Howard is in the entertainment business. It is important to rememerbt hat some of our TV heroes are peddling entertainment.
I would not consult a TV personality for advise on something.
Many people fail in debt settlement because they fail to pay a consistant payment into their account which means that a reasonable settlement can not be offered.
People succeed when they follow directions of the company and do their part.
Debt Care USA does not charge 15% up front. It is deducted from the monthly payment into your account.
If you can not afford to pay consistently into your account then I would recommend filing for BK, although I hate to see it over CC debt.
Hope this helps.
Debt Care USA, Employee
Hey Guys! i am an employee of debt care usa and i just to drop a note that i personally enjoy working with this company. Unlike alot of debt settlement companies this company actually have an ability of settling debts which means alot to consumers. Just like Chalieh said, we always return calls on time... send free welcome package... Bottom line is, we do something for the money we charge... Plus, we don't have any heavy fee to start with!
Thanks for Trust...

Mohit is a liar
Don't lie to these people Mohit. I've done research on you and your company. I've come to the conclusion that you personally are a scam artist who owes a lot of people money. The company also has a ton of ripoff reports. If you guys are doing so good, why are there so many complaints?
BBB Rating...
Guest,
There is one ripoff report on the company and a lengthy response from the CEO explaining that the customer was informed of their program which is in full compliance. Review their BBB rating.
Thanks,

Don't use debt sttl companies. These places take advantage of credit card holders at their most vulnerable time. Perhaps details are explained in a more positive light. Sure you can make things sound peachy keen when someone is desperate to hear the words. In the meantime while you are saving for settling your accts are charging off and being reported as bad debts on your credit. Not good. Stains you for 10 years. Also, your credit card companies will sttl w/you so why pay someone else to do the work that you should be doing so you are aware of exactly what is going on? If you can spend it, you should take the time to take care of it. Especially if you're "unemployed." Another thing is that many credit card companies will not work w/debt sttl agencies because of their practices. The difference between what they sttl and what you have invested is their gain. Tsk tsk. And another thing, in the state of California, any debt that is forgiven over $600.00 must be claimed as income on your taxes. Be weary of debt sttl agencies. It's best to check w/your creditors first to see how they can help. Don't be afraid to be informed.

I had five cc totaling 65000. Debt Care USA put me in the program with a payment of 786.00 a month, of which they keep (at this point) 501.00 of it. In approx 1 yr, they settled 1 account, which I had to take 8000 out of a 401K to do! Whenever you talk to them, they tell you your in "pre-legal" status, and ask you for more lumpsome money to settle with a cc company. Shouldnt they have known the status of each card, prior to telling me I qualify for their program? Twice I have been told now that I should claim BK, and that the program is not working for me! They only call you when they want more money to settle out someone immediately. What happened to 48 Month's? If I had immediate funds, I would do it myself. Twice I was on the phone on hold with my SO CALLED negotiator, and heard him screaming at his family! Obviously working from home. I could go on and on, but I think you get my point. They are not an advocate for you, and it appears that they want you out of the program as soon as they get a large portion of fees from you. The minute they get heat from one of your cc companies, they tell you your in trouble and ask for lump money to pay them. btw, my cc company that settled for the 8000, offered to settle with me for 600.00 more than what Debt Care got! Whoopie Do!
Debt Care USA does a great job!
hey guys came across this site and saw some of you had questions about Debt Care USA.
they have done an amazing job for me... got involved with them only 3 months ago and they have already settled two of my debts for me. they got them down to like 27 cents on the dollar on one and 30 cents on the dollar on the other.... STOKED!
i did the research before joining with them and they seemed to be the best out there. No one else even came close when I did searches. Debt Care USA has an "A" rating with the BBB. and the customer service at Debt Care USA made me feel really comfortable...
I would reccomend Debt Care USA for a debt settlement company. I am happy.

I was always skeptical about DS but after she told me they settleed one of her debts for 30 cents of what she owed Im thinking about joining for sure. They do have an A rating with BBB and no other company out there does. So i think Debt Care USA is good,.

Just so you're clear on why people complain is because these are consumers that either stopped paying their creditors prior to enrolling in the program or couldn't afford to continue paying them, which is why they researched the program in the first place. However, as everyone is aware when you cannot afford to pay your creditors most of them seek legal action...these clients complain when this occurs because they think debt settlement companies will make the debt THEY RACKED UP magically dissappear immediately! What these people need to know prior to enrollment is that it took them YEARS to accrue the debt and it will take YEARS to get out of the debt. Yes, people can do settlements on their own, however it takes a very disciplined individual to do that, obviously these consumers are not disciplined or else they wouldn't have gotten into an amount of debt that they couldn't pay back otherwise they probably could do this program on their own but it requires saving ALOT of money, knowing who to contact within the credit card companies, how to negotiate properly and alot of TIME which many working people do not have. Most creditors WILL work with settlement companies and the reason people enroll is because creditors prefer to work with settlement companies because they can handle debt in bulk. When a consumer contacts a creditor it does not look as appealing to settle their $5,000 debt as when a settlement company calls with 100 clients to make an offer on possibly a million plus in debt, which is another reason that this program works. People just need to realize in advance that they can be sued, they can have their bank accounts frozen, liened, garnished, etc. but they risk that on their own from not paying their bills anyways. You can contact your creditors directly but not knowing the right questions could have you in worse trouble than before. They may offer you a wonderful sounding settlement over a term of 6 months, but what they coincidently fail to mention is that if you miss a payment on their direct settlement offer to you, they will take the offer off the table, raise your interest rate upwards of 29%, reinstate your fees for past due, over limit, etc and then NEVER allow you to participate in a debt repayment program (consolidation or settlement) HOWEVER if you start in a debt repayment program FIRST and you don't like it you can cancel with no obligation and then attempt to work with your creditors directly. I've worked in this industry for over 10 years and the programs DO work but again they require patience and for the consumer to be very informed up front.

We are currently with DCUSA & getting mixed feelings about the deal, I got into a motorcycle accident and was out of work with no pay, nearly lost everything & racked up 25K real fast just trying to keep ourselves going (not always about having no discipline! did get a car repo because I had co signed for someone else(child) that defaulted, I keep reading that these are bad but see an A rating on the BBB site... still scratching my head over this...

signed up with Debt Care USA 9 months ago. they are very good about keeping me in the loop on things and have settled 2 of my Chase accounts. I tried to do this on my own at first because my brother warned me about settlement companies. After 1 month of dealing with STUPID bill collectors, i decided to hand my accounts over to Debt Care USA. Haven't looked back.
Beware
Totally bogus! I signed up with them and so far they have extracted over $3000 from my bank account and put more than 90% of that amount towards their "fees." I was led to believe that they would begin negotiating my debts as soon as 4 months into the program, but so far they have done NOTHING for me. I opted to enter this program because I had multiple debts over several different accounts that all wanted high monthly payments, yet I could only afford one monthly payment. At this point in the program I would have been better off paying off my accounts one at a time and would have paid off at least of my accounts in full by now.
They also have you sign a contract stating that they do not have to refund your money if you choose to cancel the program or even if they are entirely unable to produce any results for you whatsoever. There is also a clause limiting your ability to sue them if you believe that you have been wronged by them. BEWARE!!!!
DO NOT TRUST.
I love the USA, why don't YOU Mohit?

I agree they are horrible and it seems now they are running scared from the new changes from 10-27 laws. Weird that Mohit Madaan is offering outsourcing call centers in all these weird countries, and does very little business with usa. Many people here in the USA needs and want to work, and every time I call into DebtcareUsa, no one can speak english. I have nothing against being diverse, but any company out of CA, knows how it is, jobs are in short supply. Mohit and Adam what do you have against hiring people from your state or even from USA? I know in some of the other countries they are not governed like here in the USA. It seems very fishy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no fees now at Debt Care USA?
My sis just signed up with Debt Care USA and now they are saying they do not charge any setup fees for their program... somethign about FTC.... and being compliant.... she spoke with like 50 companies that would not leave her alone... all chargin big fees up front... anyway she decided to go with debt care because of the no fees till they settle jazz... we will see.
DCUSA - as legit as any other debt settlement scam firm
Unfortunately, I've been with DCUSA for some time, and while they are "legit", they are fairly worthless. They have negotiated two of seven accounts for us, but they did NOTHING we couldn't have done ourselves... Here's my experiences so far:
- Same as others have reported in the past, they took 100% for the first three months for their fees, then 50% of my monthly payment for the next nine months. That is why I stay with them now, I have nothing to lose by staying - they're working for me for "free" now...
- I was told constantly by them to ignore everything, and ended up getting sued by Citibank 8 months after starting the program. When I called and screamed at them, they did reach a settlement, but I still had to go pay $400 out of pocket to file a response, and still have to go to court this month to explain the multi-month payment settlement to the judge. This account, which started at $14,000, was settled for their version of 50%, $9K of the $18K the debt had grown to, or 65% of the original debt. They don't tell you ANY of this up front. Add in their 15% of the $14K, and I ended up paying about $11K of the $14K to settle.
- When signing up they talked big about helping with cease and desist letters, but when my work phone was inundated with over a dozen calls a day, they gave me the BS line about "we don't like to send those letters, as it makes the CA's less likely to work with us. Just try to deal with it."
- As mentioned before, they've changed from having good English speak customer support staff to foreign staff (India?) with such strong accents, I can't understand them half the time, and they can't ever seem to write down my info correctly. Then, shortly after they made this change, my bank account got hacked for $3400, setup as a direct withdraw to a bank in India using the same routing numbers I gave them to set up my automatic transfers... Coincidence? They claim yes, but I'm not so sure.
- I was told when signing up that I could add or subtract cards throughout the program, and they would revise their fees collected accordingly, but when I settled one of my accounts myself (to get my reward points, very generous of Chase), they refused to give me a penny back, three months after promising me they would.
So to summarize, they sort of do what advertised, refuse to modify old contracts to conform to new laws, don't really ever see the <40% of the ORIGINAL debt they promise, don't stand by you when sued, and most importantly, they do nothing you can't do on your own.
Right now, after almost 1-1/2 years, I've settled one myself, they have me on track to have two more paid off by Xmas, and we have four left. The >$10K I paid them in fees would have already settled two others, AND would likely have allowed me to avoid being sued. As it is, my math shows no way it's possible to finish in the time frame they promised due to late fees and penalties unless I can settle one or two more myself.
An easy decisiion
I would call xxxxxxxxxxxx. They don't charge any upfront fees and don't require you to put any money in an escrow account. They negotiate with your creditors stopping all phone calls and most importantly settle with most creditors at around 15 percent on the dollar.

Anyone saying they can stop all collection calls while debts remain unpaid is pretty much full of it.
Any one promoting a company or service will settle debt for 15% of the balance most of the time is full of it.
Please insert multiple consonants above as appropriate;)
Why should this be pointed out? Someone reading later may go on a wild goose chase looking for a company who can do those things. Debunking this can save you hours of time looking for something that does not exist to begin with....

Even the ones that settle for say, 60%, are for all intents and purposes a scam themselves because you don't get that other 40% in savings, it goes to the settlement company who in most cases charge 40 percent..
Do your homework first!
I used a company that doesn't charge any upfront fees and settled my accounts for as little as 23 cents on the dollar. I paid the creditors directly and felt in total control. They can be reached at 866-833-6398.
Debt Care USA A rating BBB does a great job!
These guys setteled my debt in just 24 months... had two cards... one got settled for I think 15% or something crazy... They do a great job! dont listen to the nay sayers!
Debt Care USA does not charge fees unless they settle
Cullen... how is this so if Debt Care does not charge any fees unless they settle your debt? You must have signed up before they changed their fee structure.. .My wife and I got enrolled a year ago and they dont charge us a penny unless they settlle.. you may want to call them and have them put you in their new program... FYI
Bank of America : 25k settled for 12k
