Thanks for any help.

My husband just received 2 letters about a debt he supposedly has with G.E. Capital.  Both letters state diff. amounts but the same account number (14 numbers?)

This supposed debt has never been on a credit report and I have reports for him back to 2005.

Do I send them debt validation letters? Do I contact GE Capital first? He was married at one time and the ex isnt exactly above having opened an accout but it would have been years ago and I dont have any proof or info of this happening.

the sample letter i saw here mentions credit report and he doesnt have any entries on his credit report, so i was wondering (if you think we should send a debt validation letter), would this be ok:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Re: CA Account Number xxx
original creditor account number xxx

I recently received a notice of a bill due to your company you say I owe from a G.e. Capital.  I am writing this letter to inform you that I am requesting you provide me validation of this debt.  Verifying you have my name and address and an amount you claim I owe does not constitute verification of said debt.

Under the FDCPA, I have the right to request a validation of this debt.  Please attach copies of the following documents:
1. Agreement with your client that legally authorizes you to collect on this alleged debt.
2. Agreement that bears my signature promising to pay the original creditor.
3. Complete payment history on this account, to prove the amount you wish to collect is accurate.

Sincerely,

and both of these companies(ARA Inc. and P.N. Financial) have entries on ripoff report if that makes a difference.  thanks again

thanks for the shitty attitude that comes through quite clear and not helping figure out what to do.

Excuse me??  Shitty attitude?? You were going to send  or have sent a letter to a collection agency without bothering to double check any of the laws.  You come here for help and get snotty???  Please...get lost.

Have you ever read the FDCPA???  Nothing requires they send you this.  You must have gotten the crappy letter format from this site.

2. Agreement that bears my signature promising to pay the original creditor.

This you are entitled too.

3. Complete payment history on this account, to prove the amount you wish to collect is accurate.

There is no legal requirement for them to provide you with this either.  You would need to call the original creditor yourself to get this information.
