Need Help with ACH Revocation
Date: Wed, 04/24/2013 - 14:45
I can't close my account right now because of the rent check out and my direct deposit coming in, but I also can't afford for CastlePayday to debit from my account.
I know everything needs to be in writing so I contacted Chase customer service and cited the law and told them I wanted ACH revoked. I asked them for confirmation that they recieved my request.
This is how they responded:
Dear XXXXX,
Thank you for contacting Chase. My name is XXXX. I
understand your concern about stopping payment on a
potential fraudulent transaction.
If you have provided your account information to a
fraudulent merchant, it is recommended that you either
visit your local branch to change your account number or,
call the number below.
You have the right to have your account protected and to
dispute any unauthorized transactions that post to your
account. However, you must act upon the ways that a bank
provides to protect your account from fraudulent
transactions. The bank cannot simply stop a transaction
from posting to an account. Instead of changing your
account number, you must have a Stop Payment in place for the bank to be able to stop the transaction. Three days
must be allowed for the Stop Payment to take effect. There
is a $30 fee for the Stop Payment. You must provide the
exact name of the merchant, the exact amount to be
withdrawn from your account and your acknowledgement of the fee. If the transaction posts to the account before
the Stop Payment is effective, the bank is not responsible
for any fee incurred.
We value you as a Chase customer. Please e-mail us through the Secure Message Center while you are logged on to chase.com, or call us at 1-800-935-9935, if you have any questions.
Thank you,
XXX XXXX

Is this right? What should I do when I can't close my account or afford to have the amount debited from an illegal loan? The payment is scheduled to come out next Wednesday.
Thank you in advance.
I did delete your other post
I did delete your other post so that this is in one place for you - if you have not done so as of yet Please register with the forums.
First off you want to go to the bank to do this, not over an email. You want to talk to a manager not a teller.. You are revoking ACH authorization not stopping payment there is no fee to revoke ACH authorization. You will want to give them a copy of what you are sending to CastlePayday, They need to put your account on hard block due to it being compromised.. if you are due to have payments out on Wednesday of next week - you want to do this no later than this Friday.. if they put a hard block on this account they can allow the processing of the rent check and the incoming of the direct deposit with no problem.. You will want them to go ahead and open a new account not linked in any way to the old one. As soon as the DD comes in the will route to the new account for you if you ask.. and then in 30 days the old account will close completely.
I know this can be done Chase did all for me in Oct.
Make sure you are following the link to deal with all correctly. http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/paydayloan/dealingwith-illegallenders.html

So I can lock down my account but still have checks clear and deposits received?
I am sorry it is very hard to close my account. I have had the same account for over 10 years. I need to write a check for daycare on Friday. I also have my life insurance and car insurance which is directly debited from my account. I was hoping there was some way to keep the account open and stop these transactions. I have a second job and that money is directly deposited into teh account as well. I don't know how long it takes to change that and I should have a payment from them on the 10th. I also have a few legal PDL's that I have now put on EPPs and they are suppose to deduct the money directly from my account.
There is a lot going on with this account and it has been my sole checking account for over 10 years. Any advice anyone can give with how to deal with this would be appreciated. I wish it was just simple for me to close the account. (I will register as soon as I can figure out how!)
I was the same way - and yes
I was the same way - and yes they worked with me with no problem.. You need to stop your direct debits and set up through maybe online bill pay through your new chase account.. your banker should be able to help you with all if they are doing their job! and I would recommend paying cash to the child care if you can - and just get a receipt.. The only safe way is to revoke ACH authorization and close the old account. they know they are illegal and usually don't follow the rules.. the legal ones will also allow you to make payments by other means - you should give no one your account info.. It is not like you are leaving Chase you are just changing accounts and if it means protecting your money it is easy!!!
And at top of page join the community - if that did not work you may need to contact Jason - to have him help fix.. his info is at bottom of page in the contact us link..
I have worked directly with
I have worked directly with Chase on this issue. I was like you and didn't want to close down my account of several years. I went into the branch and took copies of the ACH revocation with me. They told me they were able to place a stop payment on the impending ACH (I think I went ahead and paid the stop payment $25 fee) but warned me that should they try to debit another amount, that it might be put through, BUT they explained if that happened that I could contained them immediately to report the charges as fraudlent and they would reverse them. I know this goes against what others have said in these forums, but this worked for me. They did try to run the normal payment through and it was blocked by Chase. They did not try to run any other amounts through (this was over 8 months ago). The key is to monitor your account daily and immediately report anything that gets through as fraud. Their fraud department is top notch from my experience. I had someone run an electronic check through without my permission. It was a company I'd never heard of, etc. I alerted them around 7:00 a.m. and they had the funds reversed and back in my account within two hours. I have had no other issues but i do keep a close eye on my account just in case.
