I registered for the forums and wanted to get more information on my situation. I currently have 6 loans. 4 are payday loans and 2 are lines of credit. Here's the information:
1. QXL Online-loan $250, finance fee $95, as of 4/30 I will have paid $190 so I owe $60 towards the principal.
2. Action Payday-loan $600, finance fee $90, as of 4/30 I will have paid $635, which is $35 over the principal.
3. Castle Payday-loan $1200, finance fee $300, as of 4/30 I will have paid $1900 which is $700 over the principal.
4. One Click Cash-loan $600, finance fee $180, as of 4/30 I will have paid $360 so I owe $240 towards the principal.

Here's the information on the line of credit accounts. As these are different to payday loans I don't know if they're legal in Maryland.
1. CashNetUSA. I owe $928.69. Not sure how much I've paid since I have requested additional money after making a payment.
2. American Creditline. I owe $843.78. Not sure how much I've paid, but I recently requested an increase.

I'm hoping you can give me some advice.

The first 4 lenders you listed are illegal, you are just obliged to pay the principal only, no interest or finance fees. In your case, whatever you paid as finance fees to each of these lenders should be counted as part of the principal. For example, you paid QXL $95 as finance fees and another $190 as your regular payments. In total you paid $285 which is $35 more than what you actually owe. Out of the 4 lenders you only owe One Click cash $60, thats it.
CashNetUSA is legal in MD. I have no additional information on American Creditline. I will do some digging and post here again.

Hello,
Thanks for the reply. I thought I would get e-mail notifications when I got a reply.
Here's an update on my situation. I sent the ACH revocation e-mail to the illegal lenders. QXL online doesn't use e-mail, they have an online help centre. They responded immediately with some bs (see separate thread about QXL). After messaging back and forth they got ballsy and took out the $250 I still owed to close account. Talked to my bank and I have to wait for it to post before I can dispute it. Haven't heard from other companies, but Action Payday won't allow me to access account online. Message says I have to call customer service. Opened new bank account, but can't close it until the processing items post.

You need to revoke ACH/voluntary wage assignment before you move against these lenders. Once they get a whiff of the coming troubles, they are more than likely to perform a hit on your bank account, a desperate last ditch effort aimed at taking a sizable chunk of your cash. Talk to your bank's manager, revoke ACH and ask them to reverse the charges as unauthorized.

Thanks fo the feedback. I didn't follow directions (bad teacher) and sent the lenders letters first. Luckily QXL was the smallest balance I had. They were fine until my last message where I called them out. The branch manager was helpful, but made me feel like it was my fault..."well you did take out the loan". I explained they are prohibited in MD and I'm not trying to not pay them, I'm only paying the principal.
I'm not planning on calling any of the companies. I'm sure I will hear from them when May 15th rolls around.
Anyone worked with these companies before? How aggressive are they?

I worked with One Click Cash a few years ago. I had already closed my bank account before I sent my letters, after heeding the advice on this forum. They sent me a few e-mails and I just kept forwarding my original letter and stood my ground. I only paid back the principal. They eventually faded away.

Steve is right, once they know you're disputing your loan, they will move quickly to draw out of your account.

Depending on their next course of action, the lenders may start calling you in within a week. There is really nothing you can do to stop them, other than not picking up the phone and keep sending your letter that they are illegal, etc. Eventually, they will realize that you mean business and will follow your guidelines on how you want to proceed.

I've seen people talk about a cease and desist letter. What does that apply to?

I appreciate your feedback. I had a feeling that the C&D letter was once it went to collections. Thanks for the info on Maryland laws. How quickly does an investigation start once you contact the Maryland Commissioner?
